Lovely, quick and simple necklaces can be made with just a length of leather thong, rubber, cord, or faux suede, and a large-hole pendant.
The knot used to secure large-hole pendants and donuts is called a Lark's Head knot. To tie one, all you need to do is make a loop in the middle of the thong and pass that through the hole in the pendant. Make sure that the thong is not twisted, and then pass the two ends back through the loop. Gently tighten the loop until the pendant is held in the desired position.

There's no need to even use crimps or a clasp to finish the piece off if you don't want to - just tie an overhand knot with one end of the thong, with the other length in the middle of the knot. Repeat at the other end, and you're all set - and the necklace is adjustable as well!

For variation, you could use two different coloured thongs, or even three, and then braid them together.
